The School of Physical Education (SOPE), DAVV, Indore, established in 1990 under the UGC scheme, is a pioneering institute in Central India dedicated to advancing physical education. Initially offering a B.Sc. in Physical Education, Health Education, and Sports, the program was renamed B.P.E. in 1994-95, with the first batch graduating in 1997. The school introduced M.P.Ed. in 1993-94 on a self-finance basis and launched an M.Phil. program in 2008-09. A Ph.D. program is also successfully running, with 41 PhDs awarded in the past five years.

SOPE has a strong academic foundation and dedicated faculty, comprising four Professors, one Associate Professor, and one Senior Assistant Professor. The department has produced 86 NET and 23 JRF qualified students. Alumni have secured positions in reputed institutions like LNIPE, government schools such as Kendriya and Navodaya Vidyalayas, as well as in the Army, MP Police, and Higher Education of Madhya Pradesh. Students have also achieved recognition in national and state-level sports competitions.

The department’s vision is to prepare professional leaders in physical education to serve the nation through their knowledge and skills. Its mission includes training professionals for schools and colleges, promoting health awareness, offering scientific services to various sectors, fostering personality development through sports, and implementing the "sports for all" initiative.

The department aims to produce qualified physical education teachers, enhance knowledge in sports sciences, and improve communication and pedagogical skills. It emphasizes leadership development, research aptitude, and practical application of skills. Additionally, it encourages careers in defense and public service sectors, while working to elevate the academic perception of physical education in society.
