Center for Jain Studies
The Centre for Jain Studies has been established at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore, under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi, with the objective of providing an academic platform dedicated to the study, research, and dissemination of Jain philosophy, culture, literature, and allied subjects. It will also serve as a nodal centre for various academic, cultural and social activities in line with Jain traditions and heritage.
The Centre for Jain Studies aims to advance the study, preservation, and dissemination of Jain philosophy, heritage, and culture, as an integral part of Indian knowledge traditions. It promotes rigorous teaching, training, research, and advanced studies in Jainism and allied disciplines while establishing interdisciplinary linkages and collaborating with national and global scholars and institutions. Through outreach, dialogue, publications, and community engagement, the Centre seeks to inspire individuals and societies to embrace values of non-violence, compassion, and sustainability—cultivating peace, harmony, and meaningful living.
Preserve and Promote Jain Heritage and Culture: By offering academic programs, courses, publishing research, and hosting national and international academic activities for promoting the heritage and understanding of Jainism
Indian Knowledge System: Research and studies for contribution of Jain Literature in the fields of art, culture, philosophy, linguistics, literature, spirituality, education, humanities, grammar, ayurveda, science, mathematics, technology, astrology, architecture, astronomy, environment etc.
Foster Interdisciplinary Research: Facilitate interdisciplinary research, bringing together scholars from various fields to explore Jainism's multifaceted contributions and scientific validation of Jain practices such as ahimsa, aahar, mantra etc.
Enhance Global Understanding: By collaborating with national and international institutions, the Centre can help disseminate knowledge about Jainism worldwide
Support Community Engagement: Serve as a hub for community engagement, providing a platform for dialogue and collaboration between scholars, practitioners and the general public.

More than 36 years of academic experience including teaching, training, research and institution building as Faculty, Dean, Director, Chairman Board of Studies, Executive Council Member etc. at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore.Five years in policy making, implementation and governance as Secretary, University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi.
