School of Economics (ECON)
Established in 1976, the School of Economics (SOE) at Devi Ahilya University, Indore, stands as a premier University Teaching Department under the Faculty of Social Sciences. Recognized by the Government of Madhya Pradesh as a Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Research, SOE has been a cornerstone of academic distinction for nearly five decades. It offers a wide array of programs including Ph.D., M.Phil., M.A.(Economics), three specialized MBA programs in Business Economics, International Business, and Financial Services, and two undergraduate programs B.A. (Economics) Honours, BBA (Business Decisions).
SOE’s curriculum blends core economics with management, equipping students with analytical acumen, leadership skills, and strategic decision-making capabilities tailored to contemporary industry needs. Supported by esteemed institutions such as UGC, ICSSR, Rajya NITI Aayog, and RIS, New Delhi, the School fosters cutting-edge research in areas like Regional/ Tribal Development, Trade Liberalization, Environmental and Development Economics & Policies. Faculty and scholars also actively contribute to national/ international journals, engage in interdisciplinary research, and participate in funded research projects.
Beyond academics, SOE plays a pivotal role in outreach and extension activities, collaborating with government bodies, industries, and civil society to promote inclusive development. Having established University Connect Hub by RIS under MEA in the department, led by Dr. Ahuja, highlights its growing influence in global academic discourse, especially on trade and Global South issues. The School also hosts an Entrepreneurship-Cell to nurture entrepreneurial talent aligned with India’s economic priorities.
As part of a NAAC 'A+' accredited university, SOE fosters intellectual exchange and policy dialogue by regularly conducting seminars, conferences, workshops, budget discussions etc. SOE remains proudly student centric, as over 65 students got selected as Assistant Professor through MPPSC. Backed by modern infrastructure, conducive placement environment, globally present alumni and strong networks, SOE remains a beacon of economic education & research in Central India.
