School of Statistics (STAT)
The School of Statistics began its academic journey with the launch of the postgraduate program, Master of Science (Statistics) in 1971. In response to the growing demand for data-driven education, the School introduced an undergraduate program, Bachelor of Science (Applied Statistics and Analytics), in collaboration with the School of Data Science and Forecasting in 2019. These courses are thoughtfully designed to meet the modern-day needs of various sectors including Government organization, Industry, Research & Development, Higher Education, Planning Commission etc. The School of Statistics is also a recognized research center, offering a Ph.D. program in Statistics. The primary areas of research include Design of Experiments, Sampling Techniques, Operations Research, Modeling and Simulation, Biostatistics, and Data Analysis.Graduates from the School secure positions in government organization & different multinational companies. Many also pursue careers in academia and research. The curriculum emphasizes practical training and hands-on experience in many software’s, enabling students to independently undertake industrial projects and consultancy work.
Vision: To create an academically sound environment that nurtures, motivates and inspires excellence in research and teaching by imparting quality education in theoretical and practical aspects of statistics along with concern for society.
Mission: The mission of the school is to advance the university’s goals through excellence in research and education in Statistics. We aim to nurture critical thinking, equip students with skills in statistical theory, data analysis, and software, and prepare them to meet global statistical and technological challenges.
