School of Social Science (SOSS)
The School of Social Sciences (SOSS), established in 1989, is a vibrant academic hub that combines rigorous scholarship with a strong sense of social responsibility. With a legacy of excellence and innovation, the School is committed to nurturing minds that can understand, analyze, and transform society.
At SOSS, students explore diverse fields through four Undergraduate programs in Sociology, Psychology, Geography, and Social Work, along with eight Postgraduate programs spanning Sociology, Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Geography, Political Science, History, and Public Administration. In addition, the School offers Ph.D. programs across multiple disciplines, opening pathways to advanced research and academic careers.
The programs are carefully designed to balance Theoretical Knowledge with Practical Exposure. Students engage in fieldwork, research projects, laboratory training, and community outreach, ensuring that learning extends beyond the classroom. Whether it is understanding social behavior, exploring human-environment relations, or working for community development, students acquire skills that are both intellectually enriching and professionally relevant.
The vision of SOSS is to foster leaders who champion equity, justice, and good governance, with the ability to drive transformative change locally and globally. Through its interdisciplinary approach, the School equips students with critical thinking, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of pressing social issues.
With over 700 students enrolled annually, the School thrives on diversity, dialogue, and discovery. Its affiliation with Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya enhances academic credibility and provides students with a strong platform for future opportunities in research, public service, civil society, and international organizations.
By choosing the School of Social Sciences, students join a community dedicated to knowledge, service, and transformation—where education is not just about careers, but about shaping a better world.
