About Us

The School of Chemical Sciences, one of the prominent schools of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore, is on a fascinating path of growth and development. Since its establishment in 1972, it has risen to become one of the premier institutions for scientific research across the country. It has attracted experienced and talented scholars from all over the country to bolster its faculty strength and quality. It has impressive facilities to furnish a conducive environment for high quality research and teaching

The school was founded with the dedicated effort of Late Prof. W.V.Bhagwat. Former Heads-Dr. H.L Nigam, Dr. S. G. Harmalkar, Dr. A. V. Mahajani, Dr. N. S. Poonia, Dr. PV Khadikar, Dr. K. K. Pandey, Dr. R. Prasad, Dr. Ashok Kumar, and faculty members: have brought laurels and contributed significantly to the school's success. With profound developments in the field of science and technology globally it has become challenging for Indian institutions are facing difficult to nurture students who can deal with international challenges and avail limitless opportunities internationally. The school has produced well-equipped chemist scientists who have contributed exceptionally well to the development of the state and other regions of the country. The school offers PG and Ph.D. Chemistry programmes bringing out qualified young minds for academia and industry. The standards and achievements for both taught courses and research are outstanding.


The distinguishing features of the School are:

  • The strength of the school is excellence in academics and outstanding research
  • The school hasreceived UGC-SAP DRS-Phase I assistance and has got a respectable grant of Rs.1 crore 26 lacs for the promotion of research facilities, with the permission of a non-recurring grant of Rs 70 lacs for various sophisticated equipment.
  • Faculty members research work has been well recognized by the scientific community worldwide. Their research work has found apt places in various research publications in journals of national/international repute with high impact factors.
  • A number of research projects are funded by 10 DST-Delhi, DRDO-Delhi, Com Delhi, UGC- Delhi, MPCST-Bhopal, and UGO DAE-CSR The faculty of the school is carrying out collaborative research through a number of MoUs at the M.Sc. level, the students are exposed to theoretical and practical instrumental and spectroscopic techniques.
  • M.Sc. students have undertaken training and project work in reputed National Institutions such as IITs, IISERS. ICT-Hyderabad, IISc-Bangalore. NITS, CDRI-Lucknow, CSMCRI- Bhavnagar, Central Universities, UGC DAE-CSR-Indore etc. and in leading pharmaceutical industries.
  • The alumni of the School currently occupy prestigious positions in industry and academia, in India and abroad. Their outstanding accomplishments reflect high-quality training imparted to the students at both M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels.
  • The remarkable performance of the students in NET/GATE/ State PSC/ other competitive examinations mirrors the excellence in teaching and training imparted to the students The some of achievements of this department include All India Ranks in NET, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Fellowship. DR. D.S. Kothari Fellowship, Young Scientist Awards at State level, DRDE Award, RSC Award, and three times National level Indian Science Congress ISCA Award to the research scholars of this department.
